Capt. Steel obtained his solo Pilot’s Certificate at 16 and taught dozens of people to fly in college.  He began flying Seaplanes in Commercial operations in 1982 and for over 32 years has maintained a perfect safety record: no injured passengers, no flying accidents and no damaged aircraft. Flying, designing aircraft and meeting new people are his passions. He regularly gives Aviation Safety Seminars.  He has worked on many movie productions and TV film projects. Steel designed, built and flew the Waterworld Seaplane.   For the 100 year Anniversary of Naval Aviation Celebration in San Diego in 2011 he flew a replica of the 100 year old A-1 Triad Seaplane. The Triad Amphibian was the first aircraft purchased by the US Navy in 1911. He received a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College. His wife Andrea and their five children are frequently helping with seaplane operations and with Seaplane – Kayak Combo Tours.

Andrea Steel Received a Masters in Math from San Diego State University.  She is very detail oriented and keeps the daily operations running smoothly.  She keeps the show on the road and the seaplanes in the sky.  She maintains the aircraft log books, the financial books and the calendar for San Diego Seaplanes.  She plans and coordinates large events and directs our “Support Our Troops – FREE flights for Military Families” project.

Mike is an Orange County native (Corona del Mar) with a passion for the air and sea. With a Bachelor degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he holds an Air Transport Pilot license and an aviation heritage spanning from flight instructor to airline captain to corporate and charter pilot. Through education and abilities in mastering the skills of navigating and managing heavy equipment, Mike’s achievements include a US Coast Guard License to captain ships internationally. Founder of InterSeller, Inc.—an Orange County Web Development company—Mike’s creativity, business acumen and programming logic has spanned the Internet’s lifetime of online marketing.

Our Story

We began flying Commercial Seaplanes over 30 years ago (in 1982) and have maintained an excellent safety record. For over three decades, we have operated seaplanes locally in Southern California and in the beautiful Pacific Hawaiian Islands.  For many winter seasons, we have conducted international seaplane flights in a dozen South Caribbean countries and in Baja California.

Our pilots have extensive seaplane training and experience.  Each pilot has a minimum of 4,000 flight hours and a minimum of 20 years of commercial seaplane and land plane flight experience.  Our pilots regard safety of passengers as their highest priority.  Our mission is to provide exceptional service with uncompromising safety.
